Teaching Information

British National Curriculum

From the age of five to sixteen, education is compulsory for all children in England and Wales.  Children are also guaranteed a free nursery place from the age of four (although some do begin earlier).  The subject matter studied by students between the ages of five and sixteen is based around the four Key Stages (or KS) of the National Curriculum.

The National Curriculum was introduced into England, Wales and Northern Ireland as a nationwide curriculum for primary and secondary state schools following the Education Reform Act 1988. It determines the content of what is taught and sets attainment targets for learning in all state schools.  Furthermore the national curriculum regulates reporting and assessment standards.
