Qualified Teacher Status

Qualified Teacher Status is the accreditation awarded to teachers in England once they have completed a period of initial teacher training and passed a variety of skills tests.  In 2004, the UK Government created a new legislation pertaining to the rights of international teachers. The legislation states that from the first time you enter the UK as a qualified teacher and commence work you will only have 4 years to gain Qualified Teachers Status.  This refers to all types of work – casual, contract and full time employment.  To gain QTS you will need to be working in a long term position in a UK school. All training and assignments are completed on the job and depending on the school the process may take from 1 term to 1 school year.
