Documents and Qualifications
Qualifications
To be eligible to work in the UK as a teacher you will need to be a qualified teacher in your home country. You will need to have the following:
Secondary Teacher
- Complete an Undergraduate degree in your chosen subject field with either a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or a Combined Degree Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education. If you are a teacher from the United States you will need to have a valid Teaching Certificate from your home state.
Primary or Special Needs Teacher
- Complete a Bachelor of Education with your subject area e.g. Bachelor of Primary Education or Special Needs
For teachers who have completed their qualifications in a country where English is not the first language you will need to have your qualifications assessed by UK Naric. We can have your qualifications assessed for you, just ask your career manager.
Documents
UK schools require us to collect a number of documents for you to be eligible to work in the UK. These are outlined below and are necessary for registration.
- Up to Date CV clearly outlining all of your teaching positions with no gaps in employment history. (in a word document emailed to your consultant)
- Completed Vision for Education Registration form sent back via email
- Certified signed copy of your original Teaching Qualification OR certified signed copy of a final university transcript or teaching Certificate
- Two recent, teaching, written references (within 3 years) or names of referees. In addition these references need to be written by superiors such as a Head Teacher or Principal and at least one needs to be from your last teaching placement. If you have not worked within the last three months prior to application we will need a character or business reference
- A certified copy of the photo page and signature page of your passport
- A certified copy of your Drivers License
- Proof of Current Address (an old utility bill or bank statement)
- Criminal History Declaration
- Passport photo (please note that schools will be viewing this)
- Completed Sponsorship Form, (only for those applying for Tier 2 General Skilled Worker Visa)
- Signed GTC Waiver
- Signed Vision for Education Term's of Engagement and Contract were applicable
- Signed Teaching Notes
- FPS application form
You will need to have all of these available for our staff before you can commence work. Your Career Manager will send through all of documents you need to complete.
Police Clearances
All teachers will need to provide a National Police Clearance.
Australian teachers: you will need to fill out the Police Check application and return it directly to the Australian Federal Police with payment of $43.00.
New Zealand Teachers: you will need to complete the NZ Police check application and send it directly to the Department of Courts in New Zealand. Your career manager will confirm the cost of the police check with you.
Canadian Teachers: You will need to contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police using the website link below: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/index-eng.htm
American Teachers: You will need to complete an FBI clearance using the link below: http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm
Your police clearance has to be dated NO more than six months old by the time you arrive to start work in a UK school. Furthermore if you have previously resided in another country for longer than 6 months you will also need to provide a Police Clearance from this country as well. If you have previously worked in the UK as a teacher you will need to provide a CRB check to be eligible to work in UK schools.
Compulsory CRB/ISA Check
Prior to commencement of work in England you will be required to undergo a UK Criminal Records Bureau Check (CRB/ISA). All overseas teachers must have this CRB check completed prior to arrival. The is cost involved with these checks
